St. Joseph Chamber encourages businesses to sign up for Shop Saint Joseph

The Saint Joseph Chamber of Commerce is encouraging businesses in the city to take part in the annual Shop Saint Joseph program. Director of Communications and Marketing with the Chamber, Kristi Bailey, says the promotion provides incentive to shop local.

"So it's really quite a promotion to encourage people to shop locally when they do their holiday shopping.  If they don't live in St. Joe, come to St. Joe to shop.  Or if you do live in St. Joe, don't go to Kansas City, don't shop online.  Help support our local businesses."

Bailey says the promotion has run for 12 years, and 120 businesses participated last year, including chain stores.

"We've definitely had chains participate.  Usually the grocery stores will participate.  It's not just for small local businesses.  I know we've had Home Depot participate.  So large stores can participate as well."

Businesses do not have to be Chamber members to participate. Sign-ups end Monday.
